Eric Thorsen Bronze Collection
Eric Thorsen creates bronze animals full of life and personality. This accomplished sculptor takes a very scientific approach to his bronze artwork. Before beginning a new sculpture, he studies the anatomy of the animal in detail, making sketches and models that inform the clay original. From these highly realistic originals the animals are cast in bronze and finished with rich, subtle patinas.
The artist was born in Glasgow, Montana, to an American serviceman and a French mother. His dual citizenship exposed him to a wealth of historical and artistic influences, as he and his mother visited France regularly. Thoroughly grounded in the classical traditions and blessed with natural talent and drive, the young artist found critical acclaim early, winning Best in Show at the age of 24 for a carved fish sculpture at a prestigious competition.
Since then the awards and recognition have continued to accumulate. In 2000, Eric was honored by receiving the Society of Animal Artists Award of Excellence. For four consecutive years, from 2000 – 2003, Eric received the People's Choice Award for Best Sculpture at the C.M. Russell Art Auction. Most recently Eric has installed public sculptures commissioned by the city of Norwalk, California, the NIKE World Campus, the city of Beaverton, Oregon and the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Walkway in Helena, Montana.
This wide-ranging sculptor also creates monumental public works, medical models, display sculptures for natural history museums, bas reliefs used in custom woodworking and a huge variety of bronze animals and human figures. Non-profit groups have auctioned hundreds of Thorsen-donated bronzes, raising millions for charitable causes.
Artifacts Gallery carries his small maquette-sized limited edition bear sculptures and his adorable rabbit series. Charming, expertly rendered and full of personality, these wonderful bronzes have a way of touching the heart.
Eric Thorsen lives with his wife Cyndy in Montana, near Glacier National Park. His sculpture studio has a view of majestic Flathead Lake.
